hooded

you don't have to be the head chef at the french laundry to appreciate a beautiful working kitchen and the crowning jewel of many of our favorite industrial-inspired kitchens is the range hood.

michael s. smith's own kitchen inspired by the working kitchen in gosford park

lately, we've been noticing how fantastic a riveted nickel hood looks with your run-of-the-mill working kitchen details like subway tile and bin pulls.  judge for yourself, but we'd take any of these nickel hoods over a fancier, frillier version any day.

two rooms: steven gambrel

steven gambrel's new monograph is chock full of witty design and unique interiors inspiring me to make him the next designer featured in the "two rooms" series.

now, to the first room: this kitchen is found in an exquisite hamptons home called six swans.  the estate was fully & massively renovated with spectacular success.  things to love: that hood...wow, those industrial pendants, and the cabinet hardware on the island.

the second "room" is really the exterior of gambrel's own seaside home.  things to love: the cloud-like boxwood beds, the door hardware/color, and the sheer number of dutch doors.

if you are in the market for a great, new coffee table book...look no further.

flee the coop friday: blackberry farm

to kick off the weekend, we're going to dangle this little getaway carrot.

just to learn more about blackberry farm's legendary operation, taste their food, see their farm animals, and experience the sheer dedication they have to their multiple crafts would be a dream.  the biggest draw?  they have their own cheese-maker.  enough said.

found: pomme

we just stumbled upon this nyc store called pomme.  it's beyond adorable.  here's our little curated list of favorites.  we think our in-house toddler, holden, would go nuts for that rocket ship.

the whole package

packaging is often excruciatingly under-emphasized.  with a little thought and creativity, you can make your product really stand out.  these businesses definitely fit the bill on great packaging.

two rooms: phoebe howard

i thought it might be fun to have a recurring series showing two different rooms from the same designer to showcase their design spectrum.  i'm starting the series with two rooms from phoebe howard.  i purchased her new book a couple of weeks ago and have already found endless inspiration.  so, without further ado:

a guest suite in a house by the water...i could certainly get used to this bedroom & bath.  in fact, i'd probably never leave.  things to love about this room: the scalloped quadrille drapes and valences, the quadrille-upholstered chair, the great pops of bright turquoise, and the out-of-this-world turquoise mural in the bathroom.  stunning.

next up, the kitchen in phoebe's own hamptons home.  that banquet seating is unbelievable!  things to love about this room: the cerused wood/white cabinets/white marble combination, the industrial lighting, that ceiling, and the fantastic banquet area.

things to love

one of the greatest feelings in the world is seeing something that completely inspires you, makes you have to stop whatever you're doing and just stare.  here are a few of those:
